25 October 2009Finals BGTC in Zolder: Tim Verbergt and Duncan Huisman clinch pole postions
A drying track during the first twenty minutes qualifying session of the Belgian GT Championship Mediagroep Van Dyck, didn’t make it an easy assignment, all the more so as the ideal line was greasy and slippery. As such the positions were ever changing and finally it was Tim Verbergt’s Phoenix Audi, with a lap time of 1.35.046 which kept the KRK Dodge Viper of Koen Wauters just behind it, finishing top of the table. Both pretenders to the title will be rubbing shoulders for the start of race 1.
Behind these two the differences were far closer, with in third and fourth the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S of Bert Longin and the Ferrari of Damien Coens. Franz Lamot in the ProSpeed Competition Porsche, the Aston Martin DBRS9 of Eddy Renard and Laurent van Moerkerke in his Viper filled fifth, sixth and seventh spots.
Following a ten minute break the second Belgian GT group were out on track for their qualifying session, this time on an almost dry track. And quiet surprisingly Duncan Huisman clocked up a second best overall time, amongst 26 other colleagues from the FIA GT3 Championship, a pretty impressive driving feat. Similar to the other 15 Belgian GT3s Duncan Huisman had to reckon with the Kuismanen Racing Ford GT, shod with harder Michelin rubber. With his fastest lap time of 1.31.627 he only had to yield two tenths on the pole position of Makowiecki’s Aston Martin in FIA GT3.
Richard Westbrook in the Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S was second fastest, but some 1.3” down on pole. For his debut in the Barwell Aston Martin Maxime Soulet came in third, ahead of the KRK Dodge Viper of Jeffrey Van Hooydonk, the First Porsche of François Verbist and Frédéric Bouvy’s Ferrari. The session was red flagged just before the end following an enormous crash of Dan Brown’s Chad Racing Ferrari.
