05 juni 2009Pole for the Audi of Verbergt and the Aston of Vosse
During the first qualifying session of the Belgian GT Championship Mediagroep Van Dyck François Verbist and Tim Verbergt fought out a dogged battle. It appeared as though Verbist’s First Motorsport Porsche would be taking pole, but in the final meters it was the Audi R8 LMS that claimed top spot by a mere 166 thousands of a second, clocking up a time of 2.24.428.
Koen Wauters, pole holder during the 1000 Km van Spa weekend, was unable to make it a double in Spa (together with his pole in the BTCS) and the impressive KRK Dodge Viper finished third, ahead of the Ferrari of Damien Coens, his brother Kris Wauters (Dodge) and the Ford GT of Perti Kuismanen.
During the second session it was down to the Dodge Viper with Jeffrey Van Hooydonk and the Aston Martin DBRS9 of Vincent Vosse. With a lap of 2.22.452 (within three tenths of the best time ever in the BGT) Vosse clinched his second pole of the season. The former F3000-drivert Van Hooydonk finally finished in second place some 4 tenths down.
Dutchman Duncan Huisman finished third in the Ford GT, ahead of Bert Longin in the Porsche 997 and the Audi R8 LMS of Jeff Hemroulle.
Disappointment for the Delahaye-Francorchamps Motors Ferrari of Fred Bouvy, finishing in eighth spot, whilst the Ford Mustang of Team VDS with Stéphane Lémeret were more than satisfied with their time of 2.27.
