09 juni 2007Qualifications Belcar 12 hours of Spa : Girl Power!
The weather decided much of the outcome of the qualifying for round three of the Mediagroep Van Dyck Belcar championship. During the first qualification session the rain came down only a few minutes after the start. It rained heavily, but the shower only lasted for a few minutes and the track started to dry.
During the last quarter of the session only the even numbers stayed on track, and so it was obvious that the odd numbers would drop down the order. As a result of all this, the outcome of the session was very surprising…
The first odd number on the grid is the Italian Dodge Viper Racing Box of Cioci-Perazzini, finally in eighth, two seconds off the pole.
Further down the order, we find the Mosler of Kenis-De Keersmaeker in tenth, the Corvette Z06 of the championship leaders Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin, in twelfth (5 seconds of the pole!), the Aston Martin of Coekelbergs-Marchal in fourteenth and last but not least the Porsche of Duez-Maes in eighteenth position.
Among the lucky ones were Stéphane Lémeret and Vincent Radermecker in their Mosler. “Indeed, but we made a little mistake and as a result of that we’re only fifth”, says Lémeret. “I came in only a few laps before the end of the session and Vincent did not have the time to find the pace in these difficult conditions. So we’re ‘only’ fifth…”
But who was on pole? In fourth and third, we find the Porsches 997 van Soulet-Dumarey and D.Loix-Bouvy: runner-up is the AD Viper of Kris Wauters and Rafael Vanthoorn, half a second behind … Miss Vandevelde and Miss Boden, the young ladies in the Daikin Viper! Stephanie Boden set a stunning 2.29.676 and will lead away the Belcar field tomorrow at 11 o’clock. As usual the race will last for 125 minutes and with the typical unpredictable Spa weather, other surprises might follow…
The outcome of a wet second session did not change the order.
