06 March 2008Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen together in BGTC

Limburg based Marnix Vandermaesen is making his comeback in Belcar this season. Together with Steve Vanbellingen he will be competing with the brand new Ginetta G50 of KS Motorsport for the entire 2008 season. For Vandermaesen it represents a return to the Belcar series, a championship that he previously did not fully compete in. In the 2005 and 2006 editions of the 24 Hours of Zolder, together with Steve Vanbellingen, respectively scored a podium and a fifth place overall, and now after a year of they are back together. The duo will be driving one of the two Ginettas G50 that KS Motorsport is entering in the Belcar.

Both for reigning BTCS-champion Steve Vanbellingen and Marnix Vandermaesen it represents a return to the Belcar. During last season neither KS nor Vanbellingen appeared in the Belcar. Steve Vanbellingen, who in the past took the championship in the TB class at that time, won the title for Silhouettes in Belcar and clinched a podium place in the 2005 edition of the 24 Hours of Zolder, will this year be combining BTCS with Belcar.

Steve Vanbellingen: “I have frequently done it in the past and it is perfectly feasible. But this season will be rather special. I’m defending my BTCS title and entering an entirely new adventure with Ginetta. All in all I’m really looking forward to it. On top of that I’m pleased that Marnix is making a comeback. He’s been a part of the KS family for years and to take on a full season with him is a particular challenge. I’m fully convinced that we’re going to surprise many a person with the Ginetta G50 GT4.”

For the Limburg businessman Vandermaesen it has obviously been a while since he last competed in a full motor sport season. In 2003 he competed in the MINI Challenge, but a full Belcar-season is a first for the man from Zolder.

Marnix Vandermaesen: “Indeed, in the past I competed in the Clio Cup and MINI Challenge, but never a full Belcar season. This is why I’m particularly looking forward to it. I obviously competed several times in the 24 Hours, mainly with Steve. I have a special tie with KS Motorsport, the team run by Steve and Koen Leyssens. This is why I took on this great offer. I have full trust in these people and I’m eagerly looking forward to the first meters.”
“The car looks absolutely stunning, but we’ll obviously have to go through a learning curve. But this shouldn’t be a problem. I’m especially hoping for another brilliant result in the 24 Hours of Zolder, because this is a race close to my heart!”

KS Motorsport is presently preparing for the FIA GT-test days in Monza.
